You can obtain the necessary fishing licence from the local fisherman, and with an average depth of 2 metres, Lake Malchin is extremely shallow. In the middle of the lake is a real "hotspot" for anglers, with a depth of around 12 metres. 14 km² in total, Lake Malchin is located in Mecklenburg Switzerland, a few kilometres south-west of Malchin and is connected to Lake Kummerow to the north-east via the Dahmen Canal and the Peene. There is a navigable connection to the Baltic Sea and Dahmen is very popular with water hikers as a starting or finishing point for extensive canoe tours, with canoe, boat and bicycle hire and a bicycle repair service available at the nearby campsite. The banks are lined with dense reeds. Lake Malchin is surrounded by hills covered mainly with dense deciduous forests and is home to many species of birds, some of which are rare and protected.
